Welcome to the Graduate School of Korean Studies with the world

    Korean Literature
The Korean Literature major is an academic discipline that studies Korean literature
to understand the life and thoughts of Koreans, as well as the continuation and transformation of literary traditions. It also trains students
to understand these elements of Korean literature in a broad theoretic and systematic framework.

    Educational Goals

    • The educational goal of the Korean Literature major is to understand the unique value of Korean literature and to cultivate researchers who will creatively reinterpret the academic traditions of Korean literature. As we live in an era where diverse cultural traditions formed from different backgrounds, and where these diverse people communicate with one another in a global context, researchers of Korean literature need to systematically study the unique characteristics of Korean literature in consideration of the current situation and share the research both domestically and internationally. Through examining the works of Korean literature that encompass both classical and modern literature, our major trains students to find out how Koreans’ lives, thoughts, and literary traditions have continued and changed; fully comprehend their meanings; and compare them with literary works created in different cultures in the East and the West. Through this training, our major aims to provide an opportunity to explore the unique value of Korean literature within the context of the East and the West.

    Educational Focus

    • Understand the continuation and transformation of Korean literature by systematically studying the historical changes of Korean literature.
    • Enhance the understanding of universality and uniqueness of Korean literature through comparative studies.
