Educational Goals
- Cultural Informatics is an interdisciplinary study of communication and application methods between knowledge in traditional humanities and information science technology for the purpose of developing knowledge information that meets the complex knowledge demands of modern society and encompasses culture and technology. The educational goal of Cultural Informatics is to train knowledge information experts who will contribute to the modernization and internationalization of traditional culture by cultivating the skills to compile and process traditional academic and cultural resources into modern knowledge information content through information technology. In the Graduate School of Korean Studies’ Cultural Informatics major course, students will develop in-depth understanding and creative analytical skills with information resources in the humanities such as Korean history, geography, ideology, language, and literature, as well as all necessary skills for informatization. By allowing students to acquire these skills, education enables students to comprehensively operate the contents and technology of knowledge information is implemented.
Educational Focus
- This major aims to explore the characteristics of traditional Korean studies knowledge resources such as history, geography, ideology, language, and literature, and their value as cultural content materials.
- The purpose of this major is to cultivate data analytical skills and structuring ability necessary to informatize basic Korean Studies materials such as traditional manuscripts, documents and maps. It also aims to acquire technical knowledge necessary for dissemination of academic knowledge through experiencing the planning, compilation, and publishing process of encyclopedias and specialized dictionaries.
- The purpose of this major is to enhance necessary skills to systematically research, collect, and organize data related to local traditional culture and socio-economic life, and to utilize it in the production of cultural contents.
- The purpose of this course is to cultivate the operational capabilities of cutting-edge information technologies such as hypermedia, virtual reality, and geographic information systems, and seek ways to use them to disseminate Korean studies knowledge.
